BREAKING NEWS: Twitter is down! Thousands of users around the world report their website and smartphone app down

  • Twitter went under for thousands of users around the world
  • The outage has mainly hit the US, with some users reporting issues in the UK
  • The website and both iOS and Android apps appear to be down

Twitter has gone down for thousands of users around the world, preventing them from sharing tweets, viewing notifications, or updating news feeds.

More than 33,000 users have reported problems to Down Detector, which is monitoring websites and online services.

An outage map shows the outage is hitting more US users, with some having issues in the US and other parts of the world.

Down Detector reveals the outage began around 5:00 p.m. ET and is plaguing the website as well as iOS and Android apps.

Although the site can still be accessed, users will see an error message stating that there is nothing to see here.

Twitter's official site status page shows that it is investigating "Twitter APIs irregularities".

Although the website is still accessible, many users see "errors". Something went wrong, don't fret – it's not your fault, but not all features are working properly.

The outage occurred hours after President Donald Trump's campaign account was blocked.

Trump has now threatened to remove Section 230 protection from Twitter and Facebook – which protects them from being sued for content posted on their platforms.

But as of 5 p.m. ET, Trump wasn't the only one unable to properly use the platform.

Down Detector reports continue to skyrocket despite the fact that Twitter's status page says everything is up and running.
