The South Wales Police were called to Queen Street at around 9:50 pm to report violence.

Police say one person is in serious condition with head injuries at Wales University Hospital and three people are believed to have been stabbed.

Two others went to hospital with minor injuries, the troop added.

A witness known by the name Anna shared footage of a man she claimed was "sprayed with pepper and cursed for resisting arrest".

Another man was "passed out and received help from paramedics," she said.

Other viewers have reported hearing loud bangs near the scene.

Sophie Zermatten, 27, told WalesOnline: "I thought it was fireworks when I first heard them."

She said, "It was clear that because of the sheer number of police officers involved, something big or serious had happened."

Another passerby, Elizabeth Winter, said she described a "serious incident on Queen Street in Cardiff city center".

She wrote on Twitter: “Packed with police cars and ambulances. The police have now cleared and taped the area.

"A young man was repeatedly cursed by the police after resisting attempts to hold him back."

She added: “The area is completely surrounded by police vehicles.
