A woman who asked not to be named told the PA news agency, "I woke up and just heard a loud bang – it sounded like an earthquake."

A 35-year-old contractor who wanted to be named would have been in his leased gray Peugeot partner van heading to work if the crash had happened 10 minutes later.

His vehicle had been parked in front of his house when the truck hit it and dragged a gray Volkswagen Passat into an adjacent wall.

He said, “I was just about to go to work when I heard that huge bang. I looked out and my van was destroyed.

“It's just a piece of metal – just a van that is interchangeable. But another 10 minutes and I would have been dead if I had been inside. & # 39;

Locals said the family was not in the house when the truck crashed into the vestibule.

A neighbor said, “You are so lucky. It could have been an unthinkable tragedy if they had all been home. & # 39;

This afternoon, the distraught homeowner sat against the wall, watching officers search the ruins of his home for clues.

He was too upset to comment. The green truck had smashed into the side of his house and plowed into the vestibule.

The road has speed limits as it is used as a rat run during rush hour.

One theory investigated by Scotland Yard is the possibility that the truck driver behind the wheel may have suffered a medical episode.
