An American employee at the US embassy in Kiev died in hospital after being knocked unconscious with head injuries in a wooded area near some railroad tracks.
Ukrainian police confirmed on Wednesday that an unidentified woman who worked in the embassy has died following an attack and that a male suspect is being searched for.
The severely beaten victim was discovered by a passerby in a park near the railroad tracks on Tolbukhin Street in the Shevchenko district of the Ukrainian capital.
She sustained a head injury in the attack and was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries, authorities said.

Ukrainian police said a US embassy ID card was found in the victim's belongings.
"The unconscious woman was admitted to a hospital, where she later died," said Ukrainian police on Facebook.
"When the victim's belongings were examined, an identity card from a US embassy employee was found on her behalf."

Police said they are looking for a tall, dark-haired man aged 30 to 40 who is wearing dark shorts and a t-shirt in connection with the attack.
The US embassy in Kiev confirmed to DailyMail.com that the victim is an American employee.
"We are heartbroken to report the death of an American member of the community to the US embassy in Kiev," said a statement.
"Officials from the US embassy in Kiev are currently working with authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death."
The victim has not been identified, but a US source told The Guardian that she was the wife of a US immigration officer and had worked in the embassy in a non-diplomatic role.
Around 181 Americans and 560 Ukrainians are employed in the embassy, which is currently headed by the current head of mission Kristina Kvien.
The US State Department and the Ukrainian Office of the US State Department did not immediately return DailyMail.com's request for comment.
