32-year-old prison guard Lauren McIntyre allegedly had a sexual relationship with inmate Andrew Roberts, who is a convicted double murderer, for a period of four months
The alleged crimes came while the prison guard was working on the HMP Isle of Wight in Albany, Newport – less than two miles from the courtroom where she appeared last week.
Roberts was convicted in 2003 of strangling his girlfriend Louise L & # 39; Homme and their eight month old daughter Tia to death at their home in Rhondda, South Wales.
Their bodies were found under an upturned bed in their row house after Roberts went on the run.
Roberts was reported to have sprayed aftershave or perfume on the bodies to hide the smell of decomposition before he fled and was arrested five days later.
The then 22-year-old drug addict was sentenced to two life sentences by a judge on Swansea Crown Court who accused him of “the depraved and brutal destruction of your own family”.
McIntyre, believed to be the mother of two, appeared on the dock at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in a light green dress and only confirmed her name and date of birth.
She has been given unconditional bail pending her next trial, which will be held next month at Newport Crown Court.
McIntyre is alleged to have intentionally and without adequate apology or justification, behaved in a manner that amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the incumbent.
McIntyre of the Isle of Wight appeared on the Isle of Wight Combine Court
It is believed that McIntyre had a sexual relationship with Roberts and she did not reveal to anyone that she knew he was in possession of a cell phone.
Not only did she supposedly know he had a phone, she reportedly gave Roberts her cell phone number, communicated with him, and sent him a picture of herself.
Roberts from another prison officer, Samuel Laidler, who is believed to live on the Isle of Wight, accuses her of having been flogged.
McIntyre allegedly gave Roberts Mr. Laidler's personal cell phone number and failed to warn the security guard that he might be in danger of launching an "imminent" attack.
It is also alleged that she tried to allow Roberts to transfer money to her bank account and failed to report "wrongdoing and corruption" to other employees.
The crimes are said to have taken place between August and December 2018.
The HMP Isle of Wight in Albany Barracks is a category B men's prison with around 1,000 residents. Almost 98 percent of these prisoners are sex offenders.
