St. Athan could become a center for electric vehicle development in the UK after Aston Martin Lagonda's decision to build cars in a state-of-the-art new facility at the former Department of Defense following the purchase of the property in 2016.
Both eCube Solutions – an aircraft company – and Bristow Helicopters are located in the same 1,200-hectare Bro Tathan business park, which is strategically located near Cardiff Airport and has its own airstrip.

Britishvolt, the company that leads the selection process for the first Gigafactory location in the UK, said that demand for the latest battery technology may be limited as the UK government strives to meet its Road to Zero targets by 2050, including the ban on the sale of new gasoline. "We firmly believe that Bro Tathan is a compelling argument, especially for a company that wants to become one of the greenest battery manufacturers in the world."
Britishbolt said plans for the battery manufacturing plant would make it one of the three largest single prints in Europe.
"The plant will be one kilometer long and 30 meters high and will require more than 80 hectares of land. Because of the energy intensity in the production of lithium-ion cells, nearby renewable sources are of great importance," says Carlstrom.
"Our goal is to become one of the most environmentally friendly battery manufacturers in the world. This will be made easier by the creation of our own solar park, which guarantees an almost climate-neutral power input."
