“The IOC is 40 years too late. It wasn't big until 1980! “: Social media breaks out in the decision to include BREAKDANCING at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024
- Breakdancing has been approved for inclusion in the Olympics from 2024
- It was included after successful exams at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games
- However, the news has sparked outrage on social media and many are unhappy
News that breakdancing will officially become an Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Games has sparked an outcry on social media.
The IOC confirmed the decision on Monday. Further innovations in the areas of skateboarding, climbing and surfing are to be introduced at the late games in Tokyo next year.
According to a report by the Olympic Program Commission, the sport has approximately one million participants, while the 2019 Red Bull BC One World Final was streamed more than 50 million times via online platforms.
Breakdancing got its thumbs up to make its debut as an Olympic sport at the 2024 Games
"Breaking" matches will be held in Paris 2024 in which the athletes compete against each other
It is this kind of popularity that has led the organizers to include the sport, with the ability to introduce a younger audience to the games being a key factor for its inclusion.
The decision was not unanimously praised, however, and many took to Twitter to express their dismay at the decision.
One user wrote: & # 39; The IOC not exactly with the time are they? You are 40 years late.
"Breakdancing was big ffs in the early 1980s … When you think back, it was a little damned even then."
Another answer to the message was simply: & # 39; Breakdancing added as an Olympic sport ??? Stupid ridiculous !!! & # 39;
User Maotaz Hammouda stated, 'The idea that' breakdancing 'has been confirmed as an Olympic sport for the 2024 Olympics makes me want to honestly throw myself up.
"And the idea of it being recorded over a real sport like squash is mind-boggling."
Breakdancing – which will be referred to as "Breaking" in 2024 – began two years ago after a successful performance at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
However, many people still question their qualifications as a sport.
So breakdancing is now an Olympic sport? There was a move to make Bridge one too, ”suggested Douglas Skelton on Twitter. “I'm looking for the cha cha and the dominoes. Does anyone have any suggestions? & # 39;
User @charliedogdiary added: & # 39; Breakdancing is now an Olympic sport. I suggest we should also include Olympic car washing and Olympic lawn mowing. You couldn't make it up! "
Just heard that breakdancing is going to be an event at the next Olympics, ”@Pearlylondon wrote. "Which got me thinking, all the years of making 'The Worm' out of my face at parties and never realizing that I was actually a serious athlete."
Meanwhile, user @catherine___c joked, "If they can breakdance at the Olympics, I'll vote for Beer Pong next."
The @ODDSbible Twitter account also used the news to poke fun at some of the Premier League's failing stars.
They posted: “Breakdancing officially became an Olympic sport yesterday, which means street dance battles have been added to the medal event schedule at the 2024 Paris Games.
"Footballers who rarely score these days should think about participating so they have reason to dance again."
Along with the post, they added pictures of Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Roberto Firmino.
This is followed by a successful launch at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018
