It is the first time since 1944 that a blue moon has been visible around the world on Halloween during World War II.

The name of the phenomenon comes from the fact that it is the second full moon that appears in a calendar month. The first of October took place exactly at the beginning of the month.

Given that trick or treating was largely canceled this year due to coronavirus restrictions, Brits and others around the world had the perfect opportunity to see the moon in all its glory without the distraction.

The last time Britain saw a Halloween full moon was in 2001 and before that it was in 1955.

Anyone who owns a smartphone was able to get a good snapshot, the moon was so big on Saturday evening.
