Award-winning Yorkshire radio host Julie Donaldson dies of coronavirus at age 50 after fighting an "incredibly brave battle".

Julie Donaldson, an award-winning local radio host from Redcar, died of coronavirus at the age of 50.

The Morning Mix host at Redcars Zetland FM was hospitalized on October 6 and sadly died on Saturday, her husband confirmed.

A statement from Zetland FM posted on their Facebook page confirmed the sad news that Julie had "fought an incredibly brave battle".

The post read: & # 39; As you may know, our & # 39; Morning Mix & # 39; presenter Julie Donaldson has been in intensive care for several weeks after contracting covid-19.

"Today Julie's husband John learned some terribly sad news:" I'm devastated to write that Julie died just after 5:00 this morning.

She was hospitalized earlier this month and has fought an incredibly courageous battle against this terrible disease.

In the end, her heart just couldn't cope with the strain her deteriorating lungs put on her.

“The doctors and nurses in the intensive care unit were exceptional and all so helpful and went out of their way to comfort her when she needed it most.

"I would also like to thank all of your friends on Facebook for your kind words and encouragement. I know this has helped her tremendously."

Julie was named Best Presenter at the 2018 Community Radio Awards.

Her Morning Mix show also won the Best Community Radio Program award at the 2019 Community Radio Awards, which Julie co-hosted.

A radio station spokesman added, “Everyone at Zetland FM is broken by this news. Julie was an extraordinary radio host, a valued colleague and friend of all of us at Zetland FM.

“We also know that she was loved by our listeners and throughout the Redcar and Cleveland community.

Julie was a wonderful woman who inspired everyone she met.

“She was passionate about helping the local community in Redcar and Cleveland and has worked tirelessly to promote local groups, charities and organizations.

“We will miss her terribly and we offer our deepest condolences to her husband, John, family and friends.

& # 39; Zetland FM will pay tribute to Julie in a special program on Monday morning from 8 a.m.
