The publicly nominated winners come from all walks of life, all ages, and across the country.

Since the first ceremony in 1999, royalty, prime ministers and hundreds of leading figures from show business, sports, politics and the arts have attended.

The awards attract an audience of around five million viewers each year in a prime time slot on ITV. This makes it the top rated awards show of its kind on British television.

The winners come from tens of thousands of public nominations and stories of notable people discovered by our research team. They are reduced to a shortlist from which our jury, made up of famous personalities of national life, selects the winners.
