iPhone 12, 12 Pro and iPad Air are available now

Apple's new iPhone 12 goes on sale worldwide today. Interested customers can pick up a handset either online or in-store.

At the launch, Deirdre O & # 39; Brien, Apple's senior vice president of retail and people, made the bizarre claim that despite the economic crisis and global pandemic, there has never been a better time for an iPhone.

The high-end device with 5G connectivity, a 12-megapixel main camera, a 6.1-inch screen, flat edges and a sturdy glass ceramic screen costs £ 799.

Apple is also launching the iPhone 12 Pro today for $ 999, which is the same size but has an additional telephoto camera and lidar-based depth sensor to support Augmented Reality (AR), as well as an improved iPad Air tablet.

Photos show that customers who line up in front of the Apple Store in Sydney today will be the first to get their hands on the devices, followed by the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Max on November 13th.

The iPad Air, which was unveiled at an event ahead of the iPhone 12 unveiling, is also available for £ 599.

The all-new iPad Air features thin bezels, a 12-megapixel rear-view camera, a 10.9-inch liquid retina display (2360 x 1640), and a brand new chip called A14 Bionic.

The screen is fully laminated with True Tone support and an anti-reflective coating. The tablet is powered by a USB-C cable.

As a result of this jam-packed display, the TouchID sensor was merged with the power button and moved to the top of the device.

The iPhone 12 will be available from Friday in all Apple stores worldwide. Pre-orders for the phone will also ship starting today.

"There's never been a better time to get a new iPhone, and there has never been a better destination than Apple Retail," said O'Brien.

& # 39; We offer our customers new opportunities to get to know all of our products before they buy, so that they can be sure that they are getting the right product for them.

"Whether our customers contact us in person, by phone, or online, our entire retail team is ready to deliver the premium, personalized service they have come to expect from Apple."

Apple has admitted that iPhone launch day will "feel different" this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, but people can safely shop at the store.

It's the first flagship phone launch the company has had since the Covid-19 outbreak. The traditional queues outside the Apple Stores are being replaced in some locations with social distancing, a new appointment system, and express pick-up options.

O & # 39; Brien says the new measures for buying products are designed to keep people safe while ensuring that they continue to get the "Apple Experience".

"This year is going to feel different in our stores – you're used to experiencing this wonderful energy where everyone gathers shoulder to shoulder around the new iPhones – we're not going to have that experience this year," she told PA.

“When people come into the store – which is what we want, we love the excitement for our products – when they come into the store we give you an appointment to visit us and then you are in your own slot and we take care of it us very much about you. & # 39;

This week, the phone maker announced a new feature for its retail stores, Shopping Sessions, where customers can book a stand-alone seat with an Apple Store representative to choose the new product they want.

In front of Sydney's Apple Store in the CBD, a few dozen people were standing outside before the opening at 8 a.m., according to CNET.

The first customer in line and the first to enter the building, Jun, had been in line since 11:30 p.m. the night before and ended up buying both an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 12 Pro.

According to Reuters, the two models were sold in China today after showing signs of strong consumer interest from early pre-orders.

However, the short lines in front of the Apple Stores in Shanghai's business center contrasted with the crowds that flocked to previous launch events as most orders have now been moved online.

"I feel great to be the first customer to get the new iPhone," said 30-year-old Yan Bingqing, who arrived before the Shanghai store opened, standing in a line of about 20 people. "I have waited a long time."

Images from the Apple Store in Beijing show hordes of people both inside the building and in line outside. Even a global pandemic isn't going to stop people from getting their hands on a new Apple device.

Analysts expect a surge in orders for the iPhone 12, announced by the tech giant last week, as it supports an updated 5G network infrastructure.

Chinese e-commerce retailer JD.com recorded pre-orders for all four models of the iPhone 12 of 1.6 million on the first day of the announcement on Tuesday, October 13th.

"From the bottom of my heart, it's a little late for Apple to bring out the 5G iPhone," said Zhu Lin, another Apple fan who was waiting in line. "I expected it last year."

The annual kick-off event is almost a month later than normal, coming as the coronavirus pandemic disrupted Apple's well-oiled machine for the design and production of its best-selling product.

The aim of adding 5G capabilities to the iPhone is to improve download and upload speeds, provide higher quality video streaming, more responsive gaming, and high-definition FaceTime.

The phone's screen uses glass-ceramic, which increases its strength and makes it more resistant to cracking if dropped on the floor.

Apple introduces the new iPhone 12 with super-fast 5G connectivity

Apple officially unveiled the new iPhone 12 during a live event that was seen by millions from around the world.

The smartphone has rounded edges similar to the iPad Pro and has a 5G cellular connection – the smartphone's biggest upgrade.

In this way, the device can access the Verizons 5G Ultrawide Band, which according to Apple is the fastest system in the world with over 4 gigabytes per second.

The iPhone 12 also includes a ceramic shield, which the company claims is "harder than any smartphone glass."

The new addition is "practically insensitive to heat and electricity" and makes it more resilient if it is dropped.

In addition to the iPhone 12, Apple announced three other smartphones including the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone Pro Max, and the brand new iPhone mini priced at $ 699.

The tech giant has also added its fastest camera to the new range.

The dual-lens camera system has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and wide lens, as well as a 7-element lens, which improves performance in low light conditions by 27 percent.

Apple is opening pre-orders for the iPhone 12 on October 16, priced at $ 799. However, there are no chargers or Lightning EarPods on the devices.
