A doting father and his two daughters relax in the Caribbean sunshine.
These never-before-released photos show Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who were then 12 and 11 years old, on vacation in the Bahamas the week after Easter Sunday 2001.
They were taken by the Duchess, the mother of the children. Almost ten years after their colorful breakup and five years after their divorce, the Duke and Duchess of York tried to keep their family unity together.
But everything is not what it seems.
As charming as they are, the pictures of the Bahamian swimming pool suggest nothing of the catastrophic mishap into which the Duke had just fallen. one that – at some point – wanted to ban him from public life and bring him to the US Department of Justice for questioning as he is today.
At best, Andrew was in a disastrous relationship with a stranger who he didn't know at the time was a predatory pedophile. Worst case? Well, the Duke is accused of having sexually trafficked a 17 year old girl for his personal gratification.

The girl, now a woman, is Virginia Roberts. She has claimed, and continues to claim, that about a week before these vacation pictures were taken, the Queen's second son had sex with her in the massage room of the largest townhouse in New York City. Miss Roberts was then 17 years old. She is less than five years older than Princess Beatrice by a day.
The mansion on East 71st Street belonged to billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, a Wall Street financier whom Andrew had entertained on a shooting weekend in Sandringham last December. Miss Roberts says it was Epstein who traded her across state lines so that she could "serve" the Duke.
For his part, the Duke emphatically denies ever having had sexual relations with Miss Roberts or any minor. He says he doesn't remember meeting her.
But as a victim of Epstein, her testimony was arguably weighted by the existence of another photo. This was allegedly recorded in London in March 2001 and appears to show the Duke with his arm around his American accuser. She says they posed minutes before the first of the three occasions they had sex with each other.
Yesterday, in the second part of a seminal mail investigation into Miss Roberts' allegations against Andrew, we set out in unprecedented detail the Duke's "working visit" to New York and Boston on behalf of the Outward Bound Trust charity during Easter Week 2001.
We revealed that the Duke and his senior Personal Protection Officer (PPO) spent the third night of the trip at Epstein's mansion, despite Andrew denying this during his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis last year.
We have also proven that the void in his busy official itinerary – which was reserved for "Private Time" – could have allowed him to meet Miss Roberts at Epstein's mansion two days earlier.
It was around this time that she claimed the second sexual episode occurred between them.

While he was at Little St James (pictured) at Easter 2001, the Duke's interest was not in a teenage girl but in a handsome, middle-aged financier, whose own report seems to support this claim
With sources in Florida and the Caribbean, previously unseen official documents, and new eyewitness accounts, we can show today that the Duke's catastrophic errors of judgment during this trip did not end in New York.
Immediately after leaving town, Andrew tore up longstanding official travel arrangements involving Buckingham Palace, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Metropolitan Police to delay and shorten his family vacation in the Bahamas.
This was done in order to follow Epstein to Little St James, the tycoon's private island, 1,000 miles southeast.
There the Duke and his PPO spent 48 hours in the midst of what an eyewitness referred to as a “weekend party”, as helicopters were constantly flying in and out with other Epstein guests.
Flight logs suggest that Epstein, his then-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, Miss Roberts and another young masseuse whom Andrew allegedly had just met in New York had flown to the island before the Duke. Maxwell had arranged the new travel arrangements for both the Duke and his PPO, the mail was told.
Miss Roberts has claimed that she and the Duke had sex for the third time during an orgy on Little St James this year.
The latest revelations in the Mail embarrass the embattled Duke even more.
His own memory of these key events remains vague and unconvincing to many. However, those close to him argue that at the time he was a single man who was in a "classic midlife crisis" who had persecuted a number of apparently mature women in their 20s, 30s and 40s – not a pedophile like Epstein who committed suicide had while on remand in a New York state prison in August 2019.
While he was at Little St James for Easter 2001, the Duke's interest was not in a teenage girl but in a handsome, middle-aged financier, whose own report seems to support this claim.
His PPO, who kept a daily diary, also claims to have seen nothing to worry about his director's behavior on the island, the Mail understands.
Sources say the policeman, who was by Andrew's side for 15 years, says he does not remember ever seeing Miss Roberts.
There is no doubt that like dozens of others, she was a victim of the monster Epstein. Andrew's public figure is not easy to reject either.
From birth, his character was shaped by institutional privileges and arcane protocols. He recently told an acquaintance, "The first person I can remember meeting outside of my immediate family called me first" Your Royal Highness "and then" Sir ", and I was four years old. & # 39;
Much of the new evidence uncovered by the Mail investigation is clearly not helpful in the Duke's case either.
It is not argued that he is a man of good judgment; on the contrary.
Still, his followers will no doubt argue that a man can still be stupid, grubby, aggressive, and legitimate – in short, unlikely – without also being an abuser of trafficked teenage girls. That is something completely different – and infinitely more serious.
There is one more consideration. In the course of the Mail's investigation, questions have arisen as to how accurately Miss Roberts remembers some of the alleged events that affected the Duke, not least what happened or not in 2001 on Little St James.
A sudden change in travel plans
On April 5, 2001, a royal aide faxed a letter to Cynthia Gibbs, secretary to the Governor General of the Bahamas.
The mail saw a copy of that correspondence. It says: “As you may already know, the Duke of York will visit the Bahamas from April 12-18, 2001. He will arrive in Nassau on April 12, 2001 at 1648 on flight AA5315 from Miami.
& # 39; He is accompanied by his Personal Protection Officer Inspector *****. Upon arriving in Nassau, he intends to join the Duchess of York and the princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. & # 39;
That same day, the Royal Adjutant sent another fax to the office of the British Consul General in New York. The Duke was to spend the night in the consul's residence in Central Park on the night of his first arrival in town – April 9th. He then moved to Boston before returning to New York for a night in what has been discreetly referred to as the "private" residence (in fact, Epstein's mansion).
It was about the luggage that the Duke had brought to America for his Bahamian vacation.
"His Royal Highness will travel on to the Bahamas with (his senior PPO)," the royal aide told the consular official. “I would be grateful if you could arrange for the (vacation) luggage to be brought to the residence, and I wonder if it could possibly be stored there and then returned to JFK during the visit to New York and Boston (Airport) be loaded onto the flight to Nassau on April 12th? & # 39;
So everything was set for the Consulate General in New York and the Governor General's office in Nassau. The Duke and his senior PPO would arrive in Nassau on April 12th.
They just wouldn't, as we can show.
The Mail's investigation definitely shows the couple actually flew from New York to Miami that day. But they did not catch the connecting flight AA5315 to Nassau as planned.
Instead, the Duke appears to have spent the night of April 12 in Florida – possibly in Epstein's pink stucco mansion in Palm Beach (where then-underage Miss Roberts claims she was first asked to give the tycoon an "erotic" massage).
Meanwhile, his senior PPO flew to Little St. James for a security clearance prior to his boss's arrival.
It is unclear whether the police officer flew on a private jet or a scheduled flight. However, it is believed that the new travel arrangements were made by the Duke's old friend, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently on custody in the United States and aiding Epstein in sex trafficking and perjury. She denies any wrongdoing.
Documents seen by the Mail indicate the Duke followed his bodyguard to Epstein's island the following day, Good Friday, April 13th. Again it is unclear how he traveled.
The logs of Epstein's personal pilot, David Rodgers, show that he flew the tycoon's Gulfstream business jet from Teterboro Airport near New York to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on April 11th. This is the closest airport to Little St James.
The passenger manifest for Flight 1490 lists Epstein, Maxwell, Miss Roberts, another teenage girl named Banu, and a 21-year-old woman named Johanna Sjoberg.
In 2007 – a few years before Miss Roberts brought her allegations against the Duke public – Miss Sjoberg said she met Andrew at the Epstein mansion this Easter week. She repeated this claim in May 2016.
Pictured is Prince Andrew traveling from the Royal Lodge to Windsor earlier this year
She sat down on his lap "at her own request" to take a picture of Miss Roberts, the Duke and a Spitting Image doll in his form.
The Duke had a hand on her chest when they posed, she said. But it was done in a "playful" way and Andrew had been "charming," she said.
And so by Good Friday 2001, the main characters of Andrew's alleged sexual rendezvous gathered again in Epstein's Manhattan mansion, this time in a new and more exotic location.
But there is another name that can be added to the dramatis personae: Gwendolyn Beck.
Still glamorous at 62, she is not only an investment expert and author of the book Flirting With Finance, but was also a potential US Senator.
She also plays a central role in the quagmire of allegations against the Duke of York and what happened or not between him and the teenage Virginia Roberts on Jeffrey Epstein's Caribbean island.
Last year it was suggested that Miss Beck – who was 42 years old in early 2001 – may have met the Duke there, based on her name on a flight log and her own brief reports.
Their presence at Little St James at Easter 2001 has now been finally confirmed by the Mail's investigation.
Miss Beck told a New York-based journalist in 2015 previously unpublished email correspondence: “I was managing money for Mr. Epstein while working at Morgan Stanley (1995) and had the great pleasure of meeting Prince Andrew a number of times.
After the business relationship ended, I didn't see any of them. Mr. Epstein was kind enough to donate to my campaign, but I never spoke to him (it's very common in the US for politicians to reach out to all the rich people they know).
& # 39; The prince has always been charming, polite and a gentleman to me. I just can't imagine that this is an exact story, after all, prostitution is illegal in the US.
“If I hadn't been in love then, I would certainly have given the prince my number. . . Is he single now? & # 39;
In another email, she said, “I cannot imagine the claims made about Prince Andrew are true – as I said, he was a total gentleman.
As I remember, he arrived very late at night (on Little St James), spent the next day / night, and left early the next morning.
He was in the bungalow next to me and I didn't hear any strange noises or anything unusual. If anything, he was flirting with me, however. . . I was in love with someone else.
"We had a lively conversation that day after the market closed (New York Stock Exchange). I explained the four things you can do with your money and what a 'derivative' is. He said," Brilliant, you should write a book . "And so Flirting With Finance was born (for which he is thanked in the Acknowledgments)."
In another email, she explained to the same journalist why she refused to give them a detailed interview about her relationship with the prince: “I'm afraid it would backfire – I'm too like a character from a movie. . . And anyone who looked at the flight logs would clearly see that I was working.
"It is very sad that the press is so brutal towards HRH, especially sad for his daughters."
Sources suggest that Andrew was very fond of Miss Beck. She matched the archetype of his girlfriend, according to those who were close to him at the time: beautiful, buxom, clever. This week, Miss Beck did not respond to requests for comment.
THE TROPICAL PARTY RUNS
The flight log of Epstein's pilot David Rodgers shows that Miss Beck left the U.S. Virgin Islands on April 16 – Easter Monday – on her way to Palm Beach, Florida, on board Flight 1491 accompanied by Epstein, Maxwell, Miss Roberts and & # 39; left. Banu & # 39 ;.
Miss Sjoberg had already left the island.
In her 2016 legal filing, she stated, “They put me on a commercial flight. I wanted to be home in time for Easter. & # 39;
The mail shows that Andrew and his PPO left on Easter Sunday, April 15, almost three days after arriving on their way to the Duke's family in the Bahamas. Finally he could introduce himself with his daughters in this pool.
Little St James's escapade shows the Duke again in a very bad light.
What was his main motivation for redirecting to Epstein's hiding place instead of attending his family vacation on another Caribbean island as planned?
Was it the opportunity for business discussion as he prepared to take on a new role as Special Representative on Trade in the UK? Or was it just rampant libido?
Miss Roberts claims that the third and final time she had sex with Prince Andrew was during an open air orgy with up to eight other teenage girls on Little St. James – not during this Easter break, but later in this year.
It is perhaps the most shocking of their allegations against him: the Duke allegedly stamped out the depths of his justified depravity under the most ruthless circumstances.
However, a deeper analysis of what is in the public domain reveals as yet unexplained inconsistencies in Miss Roberts' reports. Over the past decade, she has provided two versions of what appeared to be the same event. And these versions differ on one crucial point: the participation of the Duke of York.
The orgy riddle: a group of young Russian girls flew in … an erotic photo shoot that sank into debauchery. But the secret? In one version of the prosecutor's identical reports, Duke is the focus. He is not mentioned in the other
On May 3, 2016, Virginia Roberts was interrogated in a US court after she brought a defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell on whom she was accused of lying.
Maxwell's attorney asked her, "Is there more than one truth again, Miss Roberts?"
She replied, "No, there is no more than one truth."
Maybe no more than a truth. However, sometimes there is more than one version of an alleged event. And occasionally these versions seem to vary or evolve into a completely different scenario.
In 2011 Miss Roberts wrote a draft personal memoir. The title The Billionaire Playboys' Club describes her life from childhood sexual abuse, homelessness and drug use in her teenage years, to being recruited as an underage sex slave by Epstein and Maxwell, to her escape and redemption from marriage to her Australian husband Rob Guiffre .
She offered the manuscript to at least two U.S. literary agents for commercial publication. Its cover letter to a New York agent that has become a legal exhibit reads: “I am very serious about the publication of my book and I believe this story will cover many interesting genres, not just those that are the lengthy one Track the case, but also is a woman's story of glamor, glamor, grief, compassion and true love. & # 39;
On May 3, 2016, Virginia Roberts (pictured in 2011) was interrogated in a US court after she brought a defamation suit against Ghislaine Maxwell, who accused her of lying
In another email to a journalist, she wrote: "I'm bringing this house down with this book!"
The substance promised a publishing sensation – and a legal minefield. She named celebrities – including Prince Andrew – who had sexually exploited her. The allegations were ruinous for her reputation and could even land her in jail.
On pages 96-97, Miss Roberts describes an episode that she said took place in Little St. James days after her 18th birthday: August 9, 2001. It is worth quoting it at length for comparison.
She wrote this over breakfast: & # 39; Jeffrey announced that he was expecting a couple of guests who stopped by with Brunel (Jean-Luc Brunel, a French modeling agency boss), no one mattered, just his usual entourage of beautiful girls. This time Russian models, and Jeffrey also had a photographer flown in to take model photos with the island as a backdrop for a sexy shoot. . .
“We were photographed next to nothing. . . The more provocative, the more Jeffrey and Brunel loved it. & # 39;
Maxwell's attorney asked her, "Is there more than one truth again, Miss Roberts?" She replied, "No, there is no more than one truth." Pictured: Jeffrey Epstein
She continued, “After the photo shoot, we did some outdoor water sports. . . I knew it wouldn't be long before we were all familiar. Being the only girl who spoke English was a huge mistake too. We could only communicate through hand gestures. & # 39;
Then: “After lunch on the beach we were taken to another part of the island, Jeffrey's Cabana. No words were needed here. . . By looking between bodies crossing me, I could see Jeffrey and Brunel watching us, sitting in a chair with their hands around their penis. . . & # 39;
"The best part is they don't even speak English, so there's never any need to keep them amused," I heard one of the men reveal and (I'm) pretty sure it was from Jeffrey. . . & # 39;
A clear description of a sequence of events that gives details of participants, locations, dialogues and episodes. It is the only orgy described in the manuscript.
Now consider the testimony she gave under oath in January 2015.
"The third time I had sex with Andy was in an orgy on Epstein's private island," she explained.
“I was around 18 years old at the time. Epstein, Andy, about eight other young girls, and I had sex together. The other girls all appeared to be under the age of 18 and didn't really speak English. Epstein laughed at the fact that they couldn't really communicate and said that they are the "easiest" girls to communicate with. I assumed that Jean-Luc Brunel got the girls from Eastern Europe (since he got many young foreign girls for Epstein). After that we all had dinner at the cabanas. The other girls were talking and Epstein and the prince were talking to each other. . . Prince Andrew must have flown early the next morning. «
Pictured: Ghislaine Maxwell wrestles with a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein's on the financier's private island
In April 2015, the Sunday newspaper that reported on its first interview in 2011 published an updated version. Her allegations of sexual encounters with the Duke, which had been cut from the original for legal reasons, have now been recorded.
While on Epstein's island "seven Russian girls who didn't speak a word of English showed up with a model agent," Miss Roberts is said to have said.
& # 39; Jeffrey was so excited. He said, "We're doing a big photo shoot with you and the girls." The agent took the photos. They were very provocative. We were topless and he had us in sexual positions.
Then we were told to gather in a large cabana. When I entered, Andrew and Jeffrey were sitting in chairs. Jeffrey directed us with hand gestures. Jeffrey and the prince laughed. The next day Andrew was gone. & # 39;
All three reports have a number of striking similarities: the seven or eight Russian or Eastern European girls that Brunel provided; her lack of English; Epstein's joke about the usefulness of the language barrier; the provocative photo shoot that turns into an orgy. It is certainly the same event.
But in the first report that appears in her memoir, the Duke simply does not appear. Epstein's voyeuristic, if not participatory, companion in the orgy is Brunel. In the other two versions, the Brunel figure has become a duke.
Pictured: Ghislaine Maxwell wrestles with a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein's on the financier's private island
The Mail asked Andrew's spokesman a series of questions about his April 2001 trip to Little St. James and Miss Roberts' allegations, but they said, "It would not be appropriate to comment on any of these questions."
Miss Roberts' representatives in New York have not responded to repeated requests for comment. She has consistently claimed to have had sex with Andrew three times.
In her 2015 legal filing – and a series of media interviews before and after – she states that they had sex first in London, then in New York and finally on the private island of Little St James.
However, the most detailed of all publicly available reports – the memoirs – suggests that the third instance did not take place during an orgy on the island at all, but rather while she and the prince were alone at Epstein's ranch in New Mexico.
If the Queen's favorite son had attended such a sensational event on Little St James, why didn't Miss Roberts mention it in her manuscript?
Miss Roberts admitted in an interview that "sometimes you have a foggy memory, it really is you"; and & # 39; I could be absolutely wrong about dates and I could even be wrong about places, sometimes & # 39 ;.
During the 2016 cross-examination, Miss Roberts said of her manuscript, "Just to get the word out, this is based on true events." She acknowledged that there were "a few mistakes here and there".
Given that these events are supposed to have taken place nearly 20 years ago, mistakes are natural. Memories fade.
Some traumatized people are even prone to what is known as post-event information – including media reports that skew what they remember. And legal testimony given under oath is not the same as a treatise. Nevertheless, the discrepancies remain in their history.
Enter the busty "brain surgeon"
The Duke's Personal Protection Officer (PPO) says he did not see Miss Roberts on the island or anywhere else during that April visit, sources told the Mail.
But he remembered speaking to the housekeeper, a South African couple. Sources say that as a result of the conversation, the bodyguard felt that "something was not quite right" on the island.
In 2011, after leaving Epstein's job after his arrest, the housekeepers – Miles and Cathy Alexander – interviewed a Sunday newspaper.
They said they had not seen orgies, but there were often a lot of girls, some "very young looking" and scantily clad, who "looked like they had stepped out of an underwear catalog".
The Alexanders said the duke first visited the island just before they took up their posts in February 1999. This corresponds to flight log records showing him on an Epstein jet headed for the U.S. Virgin Islands this month.
The Duchess of York and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also stayed there, they said.
Sie war groß, blond gebleicht und hatte große Brüste. Sie teilten sich ein Zimmer und verbrachten die meiste Zeit mit Windsurfen, Segeln oder anderen Wassersportarten. & # 39;
