Coronavirus: Doctors create activity risks for list rankings

What could kill you Going to a bar or going to church is more likely to catch COVID-19, but opening and removing the mail is low. This follows from a list drawn up by doctors who assess the risk of everyday activities

  • The Texas Medical Association has released the list, which shows on a scale of 1 to 10 how risky an activity is with respect to COVID-19
  • Going to a bar, attending a church service with more than 500 people, or attending a big music concert or sporting event are the most risky activities
  • Hugging or shaking hands falls into the medium to high risk category
  • At the other end of the scale, opening the mail, taking out and pumping gas are considered low risks
  • The physicians who compiled the list rated each activity based on the ability to maintain social distance

Visiting a bar or visiting a church with more than 500 people carries a much higher risk of getting coronavirus than opening the mail or going out to go. This emerges from a list of activities rated by Texas doctors.

The Texas Medical Association, which is made up of 53,000 physicians and medical students across the state, has released the list, which shows on a scale of 1 to 10 how risky an activity on COVID-19 is.

According to the list, attending a bar, attending a church service with more than 500 people, or attending a major music concert or sporting event are the activities with the highest risk of exposure to corona virus.

A visit to a cinema, an amusement park, a fitness room or a buffet follows closely behind.

Hugging or shaking hands with a friend falls into the medium to high risk category.

In this category you will also travel by plane, go to a wedding or funeral, visit a hair salon or hairdresser and eat in a restaurant.

At the other end of the scale, opening the mail, taking out and pumping gas are considered low risks.

Grocery shopping, sitting in a doctor's waiting room, eating in an outdoor restaurant, and spending an hour in a playground would be low risk, according to the list.

The physicians who compiled the list rated each activity based on the ability to maintain social distance.

"Levels are based on contributions from the Task Force and committee physicians who believed that participants, regardless of activity, took as many safety precautions as possible," said the TMA.

The United States set a bleak record on Tuesday with more than 60,000 new coronavirus cases in a single day, compared to the previous record of 53,600 infections last Thursday.

The number of cases in the U.S. is now close to 3 million, and more than 131,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 since the March pandemic.

At least 1,100 of these deaths were recorded on Tuesday, the highest daily increase this month.

The number of deaths across the country is declining, although the number of infections has risen to levels not seen during the pandemic.

According to data from the COVID Tracking Project, which shows the 7-day average of deaths in the three hot-spot countries, death rates in Texas, Arizona and Florida are now showing upward trends.

The grim milestone of nearly 3 million confirmed cases came when more states reported record numbers of new infections.
