Coronation Street has been hit by 59 Ofcom complaints about its "discriminatory" scene, in which Sarah Platt described Adam Barlow as a "smug Scottish girl".

On Coronation Street, 59 Ofcom complaints were filed over a "discriminatory" scene with Sarah Platt and Adam Barlow.

In an episode broadcast on November 11th, Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, 37, saw Adam, played by Sam Robertson, 35, a "smug Scottish girl".

The argument came after Adam tried to make Sarah jealous by interviewing one of her co-workers, Alina Pop.

An Ofcom spokesman told The Sun that it had received 59 complaints about a "discriminatory comment" from Sarah Platt.

After the scenes aired, fans went on Twitter and were furious at the comment when they asked why the word "Scottish" was being used as an insult.
