Celine Dion superfan wakes up to find that he has changed his name to Celine Dion through charter poll

A Celine Dion superfan woke up after a drunken night to find that he had changed his name to Celine Dion through charter poll.

Celine Dion, also known as Thomas Dodd, attended one of the Canadian singer's Christmas concerts and decided to pay £ 89 to officially take on her name.

The 30-year-old hospitality manager forgot everything about the name change the next day – until the official documents from the survey of certificates landed at this door on Wednesday.

Mr Dion says he has no plans to change his name again as he hopes to get behind the scenes on one of her future appearances.

But he admits he's scared to tell his superiors about his new nickname and that his mom hasn't seen the funny side either.

Mr Dion said he got the idea of alcohol one night before Christmas when he saw a Celine Dion Las Vegas concert on YouTube.

The lifelong fan from Clifton Campville, Tamworth, Staffordshire said, “I was planning on visiting her in Vegas but obviously couldn't because of Covid.

“I'm a little excited to see their concerts on Youtube as the next best thing. I'm a bit obsessed with her and always have been.

“But I don't know why it occurred to me to change my name to hers. I can't really remember the night and forgot everything the next day.

“I remember watching her Celine Dion concert in Vegas and that's about all I can remember. I wish I knew what happened but it was a hazy night.

I came home from work on Wednesday and there was a large white envelope on the floor by the door that said "Do not bend".

& # 39; It looked pretty important and was full of all of these official certificates. As soon as I read it, I had to sit in the kitchen.

"I thought 'this can't be real" but it's as real as it gets. I just don't remember it. I must have thought it was a great idea and just did it there and then online.

"I'm a bit of a Celine Dione superfan and obviously just thought it was going to be funny – but my mom doesn't think so, she wasn't particularly pleased."

He added, “I told her it could be worse and it could have been Boris Johnson – we're just lucky he doesn't have live concerts on YouTube.

“She thinks it's funny now, as does my sister, but she almost choked on her sandwich when I told her.

“I'm also afraid of telling work – how can I tell you that from now on you have to call me Celine Dion?

“I'm a lifelong fan and visited her a few years ago, but my dream is to still visit her in Vegas. I think she is just amazing and she has an amazing voice.

“I hope there are benefits to this, and maybe I can go backstage at a concert and some first class flights.

“I'm more upset that I didn't inherit the voice or the bank account – but I can work on that. I'm in no rush to change my name again. & # 39;

Mr Dion, who is currently working on a proving ground in Covid while on vacation, joked about how he would explain the name if it were ever stopped by the police.

He added, "I am afraid of being stopped by the police and I can see them asking, 'Can I take your name, please? "

“And I have to say it's Celine, last name Dion.

“But if it makes people laugh this year, I don't care. I think we could all take a laugh after the year we've just had.

“I haven't spoken to my work yet as I am currently volunteering on a Covid volunteer site and I can't wait to tell you what your name is at the entrance. Mine is Celine Dion.

“Since I'm on vacation, I just thought I'd do my bit as I don't like to be at home.

“But my job now knows I'm crazy, so you should handle it. I never dreamed that I would have to explain it to you.

"I have been known to do some stupid things at night, but I never thought I could do something this stupid by staying home and watching YouTube."
