Broadcaster and author Jeremy Vine
This week, broadcaster and writer Jeremy Vine is checking in our travel questions and answers.
He talks about his earliest travel memory, his favorite hotel in the UK, the trip he took this summer – and much more.
Earliest vacation storage?
I go to Lusty Glaze Beach with my parents outside of Newquay in Cornwall. The seagulls always found Mommy's ice cream.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A HOLIDAY?
If you give me a good book and a deck chair, I'll be happy for days. But my wife likes to go sightseeing and thinks if she doesn't move it's a waste of time.
DO YOU CYCLUS ON HOLIDAY?
Not really. I ride my bike during the week, but mostly to work – I make it easy for myself when I go out.
HAS COVID DESTROYED TRAVEL PLANS?
I was hoping to bring my youngest daughter to Ireland.
HAVE YOU MADE A STAY INSTEAD?
We went to Devon and visited Sidmouth and Tipton St John which both have immense charm. We even have to catch crabs.
Did you dip your toes in the sea?
I once went swimming in a deadly cold sea off the coast of Devon and was in real physical pain – but a wetsuit changed the experience.
FAVORITE UK HOTEL
The Hotel du Vin in Glasgow. It has a wonderful restaurant.
TOP TRAVEL TIP
Don't overpack – the less you do, the more you'll enjoy it.
Jeremy said his dream destinations are Australia (pictured) and New Zealand
ARE YOU A LINGUIST?
My wife speaks French, German and Italian, so I'm nervous about my high school French and German.
I would love a cruise but my wife is scared of being stuck on a ship and not enjoying it.
Australia and New Zealand – but air travel is currently not possible. . .
- Jeremy's novel The Diver And The Lover (Coronet) is out now.
