A young father was accused of trying to kill his former father-in-law in a wild knife attack.

23-year-old Jarrod Nash is said to have attacked 39-year-old Robert Burt in Beaconsfield, Perth, on Friday evening.

He reportedly tried to cut Mr. Burt's throat with the knife and left him with a large incision on his chin before running away.

Mr. Burt was supported by his wife and children before he was taken to the hospital where he had 60 stitches on the neck and face.

He remembered his terrible ordeal and said to 9News: “I felt the grip hit my jaw. I immediately felt that there was a disc.

The doctors said it was deep. They said it was bad and he only missed the carotid artery. If that had been cut there is no way to fix it – I would have been dead. & # 39;

Nash was charged with attempted murder.

A police spokesman said in a statement on Sunday, "He allegedly hit the male victim with a knife, causing a cut in the neck."

Mr. Burt was transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition after the operation.

This includes burglary and criminal damage following an incident in Spearwood near Fremantle on Thursday.

He has been denied police bail and is expected to appear before the Perth Magistrates & # 39; Court on Sunday.
