Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has announced that his tennis champion wife Serena Williams is helping him recognize his privilege.
Last week, the 37-year-old tech entrepreneur stepped down from Reddit's board of directors to make way for black leadership. He said this was inspired by his two-year-old daughter Olympia.
Ohanian revealed how his wife and daughter influenced his decision to step down to support the black community.
"There are things I do that my wife reviews with the best of intentions but still requires me to feel that pain and then dig deeper," he said on Thursday on CBS This Morning.

"There are things I do that my wife examines me with the best intentions, but still require me to feel this pain … and then dig deeper," he said on Thursday on CBS This Morning
The tech boss opened his privilege in the business world and said that despite his inexperience, youth and self-doubt, he often got a place at the table.
A privilege he recognized was to strengthen his voice and support his opinions. He said he quickly learned that even though she is one of the greatest athletes in the world, his wife doesn't get the same attention.
“By default, I expect to be heard because, throughout my life, when I speak, I am generally in a position where someone will hear me, step on my side, and hear what I have to say. And only when I talk to my wife about things that I really understand is it not a luxury that she had, ”he revealed.
"Do you think you would have come to this way of thinking if you hadn't been with Serena specifically?" Host Gayle King asked.
"I'd like to say yes, but – to see – look to have this front row seat for her, not just her size, but everything she has to endure, much of it that is never reported, that nobody sees, right? … It made the training very quick … especially if this is someone you love, "said Ohanian.

The decision to withdraw from Reddit's board of directors was not an easy one for Ohanian, but it is a decision that is repeated across the country as companies work to diversify their offices and support black people.
After the murder of black policeman George Floyd by a white policeman on May 25, which sparked protests across the country, there was racist settlement in the United States.
Protesters have called for an end to police brutality, cities have banned chokeholds, police authorities are faced with demands to be defused or reformed, and companies are under pressure to diversify.
Ohanian expressed his hope for the future and said, "Things are changing" as more and more people deal with racial injustices and the scars they left behind in the country.
"This discomfort that we feel physically when we push ourselves to go on is something we usually assume, right? We know that growth takes place there. There the muscles tear only a little so that they grow back stronger. These conversations are the same type of exercise. They are the same kind of discomfort for our brain and for our souls, ”he said.
Ohanian spoke about his decision to resign, saying he took the step to support his daughter Olympia. I remembered that my greatest creation is not Reddit and will never be. It is my daughter and I want her to be proud of her father. & # 39;
"Because at the end of the day it is a very sensible question if we ask privileged whites to feel a little uncomfortable to have a tough conversation," he added.

“You know, Reddit was my first child. I started right after college. … I was a kid who went from an LSAT to a waffle house and decided to become an entrepreneur, "he said. & # 39;
"But looking inside was a difficult decision until it was really easy … when I remembered that my greatest creation is not Reddit and will never be. It is my daughter and I want her to be proud of her father, ”he added.
King noted that he could have gone the easy way and put a black employee on the board while keeping his own place, but he preferred to set a good example.
"I think there's something symbolic about someone in my position who steps aside to say we're not just going to make sure you have a seat at the table. I will give up my place so you can have it. And I hope that boardrooms around the country will look around and say, "Who do we serve? Who is our church?" He said.
