Tributes are found at the forest site, where the police are looking for the missing Louise Smith (16)

Mourners have planted flowers where a body was found in Hampshire in search of the missing 16-year-old Louise Smith.

The police are investigating her disappearance today when she searches a couple's apartment where Louise lived.

Forensic experts searched the property on the first floor of the 29-year-old woman and her husband in Havant. According to a friend, Louise had been under her care before she disappeared.

The police also searched another property, a semi-detached house a mile away, where officers were looking for a pair of trainers and gasoline.

Louise disappeared on May 8 – VE Day – and has not been seen since.

A spokesman for the Hampshire Police told MailOnline today that a body found on Thursday in the nearby forest has not yet been officially identified.

A 29-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, but were later released on bail.

Louise is said to have had problems at home with her mother Rebecca Cooper, who lives five minutes' walk from the apartment where the teenager is said to have lived with the couple.

A neighbor said: “On VE day I saw a red van in front of the apartments and a girl who came in with bundles of clothes. I reported this to the police because it didn't feel right.

"I can't tell if it was definitely her, but it was a girl her age."

Another local said, “Louise had been suffering from depression recently and had apparently been bullied at school.

She had an on-off friend who had a troubled past herself. I'm not sure if he got on well with Louise's mother.

As a result, she has spent a lot of time with this couple. I think she had lived in this apartment before she was missing. & # 39;

A resident of the apartment, who was raided by the police, said how the couple was handcuffed by the police on May 15.

He said, "I let the officers in. A short time later, they showed up with the residents of the apartment and handcuffed them outside."

A neighbor told the police how he looked "perfectly normal" and said, "I told the officers that he was here on May 8 between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m."

His mother and sisters live in the house and he lived before he married. I asked how he was and he seemed perfectly fine. He didn't look like he was worried about anything.

“She was taken care of a second time because she had problems with her mother. The police started searching the house last Friday.

“You've been there all weekend. At first they apparently looked for a cell phone and then for a SIM card.

“You took away some electrical items later.

"I understand that they are now looking for a pair of sneakers and some petrol.

“The woman and her daughters who live there are nice people. I think it's the woman's son that the police are interested in. & # 39;

Mandy Fernando has known the 16-year-old since childhood.

She placed flowers at the entrance to Havant Thicket in Hampshire, where the police discovered a body believed to be Louise's.

Mandy described Louise as a pretty girl with a heart of gold. "The community is devastated, sad, shocked," said Mandy. "I can't speak for everyone, but when someone hears from a young person, whoever it is, it's very sad."

Louise's neighbor John Singleton said he saw the girl the day she was missing.

'She just went for a walk, I didn't know where she was going. It is very sad, the result is the saddest, for a while we had hope. & # 39;

It also turned out yesterday that the day before the police found a body, Louise's mother wrote on Facebook how frustrated she was not being able to look for her daughter.

She wrote on Wednesday evening: "I want to shout from the roofs that I want to look everywhere. I was told not to search the Thicket and Leigh Park Gardens, any search must be from there. & # 39;

The police have released a CCTV picture showing Louise leaving a Tesco store the night before she disappeared.

An eyewitness said that she went to the supermarket twice, once in the afternoon with her cousin's husband, and then alone in the evening.

He said, "I saw Louise enter Tesco with another man, her cousin's husband, in the afternoon, and then I saw her alone later in the day when she bought a bag of ice cream."
